My work is concerned with the fragility of human existence: the physical, the visceral and the ontological struggle to find meaning and purpose. I regard myself foremost as a painter. I am excited by paint and the ceaseless challenge it presents. My paintings emerge through the intense labour of the painting process and the uncertainty of what will appear. It is an alchemistic journey where the manipulation of the material brings nothingness into being. Marilyn Durkin is a London based figurative painter with work in private collections in London, Paris, Madrid and the USA.
